Wuweigang Waterbird Sanctuary

The Wuweigang Waterbird Sanctuary is located in Gangbian Village, Su'ao Township, Yilan County, adjacent to the intersection of Provincial Highway 9 and Lingjiao Road, giving it a clear and convenient transportation location. The sanctuary covers an area of approximately 103 hectares and is situated in the southeastern corner of the Lanyang Plain. It is bordered on the east by the vast Pacific Ocean, and to its south lies the famous Beifang'ao Fishing Harbor. Local settlements such as Dakenggu and Yueming New Village are scattered around its periphery. Originally, this area was a winding river, but due to the long-term silting of its estuary, the water flow could not smoothly reach the sea. This gradually led to the formation of a vast wetland marsh, which is how it earned the name 'Wuweigang' (meaning 'tail-less harbor').
