Renyitan Reservoir is located upstream of the Bazhang River in Fanlu Township, Chiayi County. It is an off-stream earth dam reservoir. Its catchment area is 3.66 square kilometers, the dam crest length is 1535 meters, the width is 9 meters, and the annual water supply capacity is 52 million metric tons. Construction of the reservoir began in April 1980 (Minguo 69) and was completed with water storage commencing in June 1987 (Minguo 76). The water source is diverted from the Bazhang River and introduced into the reservoir after passing through a sedimentation pond. Its intake is located approximately 50 meters downstream from Wufeng Bridge on Provincial Highway 3, where a diversion dam is set up. Water is then guided into Renyitan Reservoir via a 1.5-kilometer diversion channel. It operates in conjunction with Lantan Reservoir to supply domestic water for 400,000 to 500,000 people in the greater Chiayi area. Renyitan Reservoir supplies drinking water to the entire Chiayi County and City. The surrounding area boasts beautiful lake and mountain scenery, pleasant views, and lush greenery. Along the reservoir's edge, there is also a well-planned embankment trail where couples are often seen strolling hand-in-hand. In the early mornings and evenings, many visitors come for walks and exercise, flying kites, jogging, dog walking, and more. The picturesque Renyitan, located within Fanlu Township, with its natural irregular shape, adds to its boundless beauty, making it the best recreational spot for Chiayi residents on weekends and holidays.
