Jingzhong Temple in Datan Village

Datan Village is the largest village in Xingang Township, with the Lin family being the predominant surname. Legend has it that in the first half of the 17th century, a man named Lin crossed the sea from Lunzi Village, Yongfeng Li, Nanjing County, to Taiwan. Along the way, he respectfully carried an effigy of the renowned anti-Jin general Yue Fei for protection. Upon arriving in Datan Village, he initially worshipped the effigy in his home. As his descendants grew, a temple was built in the village for public worship. This temple became the only Yue Wang Temple in Chiayi County, and also Taiwan's first and oldest Jingzhong Temple established by those who crossed the sea from the east. To this day, every year on the 15th day of the second lunar month, which marks Yue Fei's birthday, Datan Village holds solemn ceremonies. Many villagers eagerly flock to Jingzhong Temple to pay homage to Yue Wumu Wang (Yue Fei). Jingzhong Temple has become the enduring spiritual center for the villagers of Datan.
