Sheng En Temple

Sheng En Temple in Taibao City, Chiayi County, enshrines Guanyin Bodhisattva from Mount Putuo, Zhejiang Province. Legend has it that, following instructions from three Bodhisattvas, the Sheng En Temple Management Committee traveled to Mount Putuo three times between 1989 and 1991 to invite the Bodhisattva to reside in the temple for protection and blessings. Sheng En Temple's devotees are found both domestically and abroad, with notable figures such as Mr. Masamitsu Mori from Japan and Dr. Wen-Hsiung Ko from Hawaii making it a point to visit for worship whenever they come to Taiwan. In 1987, to promote Buddhist teachings, Sheng En Temple built the Prajnaparamita Lecture Hall on the right side of the temple. It is said that the original concepts for every detail within, from plants and trees to bricks and tiles, including wall decorations and floor patterns, originated from the Bodhisattva's instructions. Starting in 1995, the Nine-Rank Lotus Gate Courtyard and the Sutra Repository of the Prajnaparamita Lecture Hall were successively renovated. The Prajnaparamita Lecture Hall was completed in June of the same year, and the Sutra Repository was officially inaugurated by 2000. Sheng En Temple boasts a beautiful and solemn environment, featuring the Bagua Gate Courtyard, Lotus Pond, Sun-Moon Pavilion, Prajnaparamita Sutra Lecture Hall, Yuantong Building, North-South Pole Gates, and more. It is filled with ingenuity and creativity everywhere, differing significantly from the architectural style of typical temples. Currently, on the first and fifteenth day of each lunar month, the temple's Good Karma Association holds Dharma talks and lectures for devotees. Annually, on September 19th, the temple also hosts a National Blessing and Peace Ritual, and a Universal Salvation Rite.
