Puzi Arts Park covers an area of 36,186 square meters and was formerly known as "Ghost Pond" or "Soldier Camp." During the Japanese colonial period, this site was the Dongshi Shrine, characterized by ancient towering trees and beautiful scenery. After World War II, it became a naval defense post, but over time, due to neglect and disrepair, its landscape was almost completely ruined. In 1987, the military relocated, and the land was renamed "Zhongzheng Park." It wasn't until its redevelopment in 2004 that it was officially renamed "Puzi Arts Park." The current Puzi Arts Park has had its walls removed, making it more accessible to local residents. Some of its facilities still retain their historical appearance; at the entrance, visitors can even see the worship pavilion and large gateway arches from its past as a shrine (known as "Torii"). Additionally, the park features modern granite pathways and beautifully designed landscapes. Its rich and diverse plant life attracts a variety of birds, butterflies, and insects, while numerous lively and versatile children's play facilities offer endless enjoyment. To emphasize its cultural and artistic characteristics, the park also includes a performance plaza dedicated to promoting various artistic and cultural events. Speaking of art, the Meiling Art Museum within the park is noteworthy. This museum was established in 1984 by many disciples of art master Wu Meiling to commemorate his lifelong dedication to education and artistic achievements, and was officially inaugurated in 1995, on the master's 100th birthday. The museum houses rare paintings by the master, which not only perpetuate his philosophy but also represent a significant stride for the artistic and cultural atmosphere of Chiayi County. Overall, with the profound artistic value of the museum, coupled with the park's beautiful scenery, rich ecology, historical remnants, joyful children's play areas, and well-maintained swimming pools, tennis courts, croquet courts, and more, Puzi Arts Park stands as an important recreational destination and tourist attraction that combines diverse features and functions.
