Chan Lin Temple is located on the mountainside of Meishan, Chiayi County. It is renowned for its extensive plum tree plantations, boasting over three thousand plum trees. The garden also features a vibrant array of peach, plum, and azalea blossoms, creating a colorful spectacle throughout all four seasons. It is also an excellent spot for moon-gazing; the saying 'Plum Village Moon Retreat' refers to one of the Eight Sights of Chulo (an old name for Chiayi). The main hall of Chan Lin Temple is magnificent, housing a statue of the Thousand-armed Guanyin, and is considered the foremost Buddhist sacred site in Meishan Township. A tall bamboo grove stands majestically in front of the temple, creating a serene environment that evokes a sense of ancient simplicity and elegant charm. Due to the tranquil and solemn nature of the Buddhist hall dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva, pilgrims visit continuously throughout the year. It has been an important place for religious faith and spiritual life since ancient times. Ascending the ancient stone steps, one can overlook the entire panorama of Meishan town. Immersed in this setting, you will feel the compassion of the Buddha and a serene, fragrant tranquility.
