The Eternal Bridge, located in Chukou Village, comprises two rustic suspension bridges that span the Bazhang River. Chukou Village itself, nestled on the riverbanks between the Bazhang River and Duliao Mountain, marks the official starting point of the Alishan Highway. The bridges were constructed in 1937, during the 12th year of Japan's Showa Era, and historically served as a crucial passage for locals traveling from Gongtian Village through Chukou to Chiayi. The Eternal Bridge consists of two distinct sections: the lower structure is the Dijiu Suspension Bridge, and the higher one is the Tianchang Suspension Bridge. The Dijiu Bridge runs parallel to the Chukou Bridge along Provincial Highway 18, while the Tianchang Bridge is situated behind Longyin Temple. It's a popular spot where couples are often seen strolling, taking in the expansive views from the bridge. Standing on the romantic Eternal Bridge, one feels almost suspended in mid-air. Looking down at the Bazhang River, its waters are crystal clear like a mirror in winter, while in summer, they churn with turbid waves. Since the Alishan Highway's completion, this area marks the transition from flat roads to winding, challenging mountain routes, making it a common rest stop for most travelers. The verdant mountains behind the bridge, combined with the gentle flow of the creek below, paint a beautiful pastoral landscape. The refreshing environment and crisp air offer a perfect escape from the fatigue of travel, allowing visitors to completely relax.
