In its early days, Puzi City, Chiayi County, was a major hub for the embroidery industry. The prosperity of that era was reflected in the vast number of embroidered artworks exported from Puzi City, including Baxian banners (Eight Immortals banners), door curtains, pillowcases, bedsheets, Taiwanese puppet show costumes, Taiwanese opera costumes, bridal dowries, and more, with sales extending across Taiwan. To preserve and promote this exceptional local cultural characteristic, the Puzi City Office has been dedicated to the development of embroidery since 2002. It not only established the Chiayi County Embroidery Culture Association and organized workshops for embroidery instruction but also, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, constructed the Embroidery Culture Museum. The museum was originally the repurposed idle office space of a local maritime patrol unit. The entire building was renovated from a wooden Japanese-style dormitory of that period, possessing a deep sense of antiquity that aligns with the essence of embroidery culture. Inside, the museum documents the glorious prosperity of Puzi City during the heyday of its embroidery industry and showcases many meticulously crafted, breathtaking embroidered artworks. Through interactive learning about the industry, the Embroidery Culture Museum has revitalized a rich local culture, integrating with community activities, driving various cultural tourism initiatives, and becoming a notable tourist attraction.
