Hsinchu's most approachable 'Xiao Bai Yue' (minor peak), Eighteen Peaks Mountain, is perfect for beginners. This mountain walk is not far from Hsinchu city center and is conveniently located near National Tsing Hua University and National Chiao Tung University. Nearby, you'll also find Hsinchu Park and Hsinchu Zoo. It's a minor peak that the whole family can easily conquer. The hiking trail boasts ten entrances, and regardless of which you choose, you can reach the summit in 10-20 minutes, offering panoramic views of Hsinchu's mountains, sea, and beautiful cityscapes. (The City Editor heard that one way to reach the summit is by climbing a 300-step path.) The main trail of Eighteen Peaks Mountain is paved with asphalt, making it a flat, easy-to-walk suburban trail suitable for all ages. Both seniors and children can complete it smoothly. There are many pavilions along the way, providing resting spots whenever you get tired. It also thoughtfully provides the most water fountains in Hsinchu City; the City Editor counted at least 17 locations. Clear your mind, immerse yourself in the forest, and focus on climbing the mountain all the way to the summit! Eighteen Peaks Mountain stretches from the northern outskirts of Hsinchu County southward. It was developed as a 'forest park' during the Japanese colonial era. Roughly crescent-shaped, it winds for about 7-8 kilometers, embracing the eastern and southern suburbs of Hsinchu City. The mountain is said to be named for its actual eighteen peaks. Its highest point is 131.79 meters, its lowest is 50 meters, and the average gradient is 40%. Along the way, dense forests cover the mountains, the asphalt paths are smooth, flowers are fragrant, and the air on the tree-lined paths is fresh and invigorating. It has become one of the essential routes for Hsinchu citizens' exercise and recreation.
