Chiayi University Botanical Garden

※Note: The hemispherical greenhouse at Chiayi University Botanical Garden has been closed since May 1, 2017. It showcases plant communities emphasizing the imagery of native forests and riparian zones. Surrounding the greenhouse are themed areas such as the Taiwan Important Tree Specimen Garden, Hengchun and Lanyu Plant Zones, Aquatic Ecosystem Pond Plant Zone, and Xeric Plant Zone. Inside the greenhouse, there is a waterfall plant zone designed to resemble a rocky mountain, where a waterfall cascades down an eight-meter-high rock face. The resulting mist provides the humid environment necessary for orchids and ferns to grow on the rock wall, creating a natural ecosystem. The greenhouse also houses a 12-meter-tall Diospyros discolor and Silverleaf Tree, along with various tropical and subtropical tree species such as Sago Palm, Fenggang Persimmon, Ivory Tree, and Soft Persimmon; additionally, species like Cycas, Taiwan Yew, Taiwan Cow-tail Fir, and Lanyu Rhododendron and Pine are present, creating a diverse ecological landscape of a subtropical region. In the Taiwan Important Tree Specimen Garden, important Taiwanese tree species include gymnosperms such as Taiwan Fir, Taiwan White Pine, Taiwan Cow-tail Fir, and Taiwan Incense Cedar; broadleaf trees include Stout Camphor, Taiwan Michelia, Taiwan Zelkova, and Hengchun Bayberry. The Aquatic Plant Zone consists of an ecological pond and a net house. The ecological pond mainly aims to recreate the scenery of a native pond and marsh ecosystem. The net house features the imagery of Taiwanese ponds, precious carnivorous plants, and unique aquatic plants presented in water bowls.
