The Dingzhuang Community in Chiayi City has achieved significant success over many years in environmental and ecological transformation. They have converted the old Taiwan Sugar Railway into a community bicycle path, where groups of rhinoceros beetles can be seen everywhere on the glossy privet trees lining both sides – a truly delightful surprise! Rhinoceros beetle restoration is not an easy task, but the Dingzhuang Community has successfully brought them back by improving water quality and the environment, planting glossy privet tree lanes, and constructing bicycle paths, thereby creating a suitable habitat. Every year in mid-May, rhinoceros beetles emerge from the soil after pupation, seeking mates to reproduce. Hundreds of rhinoceros beetles gather on the glossy privet trees, striking various poses, and even engaging in wrestling matches, creating a captivating spectacle. Known as "armored knights," these rhinoceros beetles are the focus of the "Searching for Rhinoceros Beetle Traces" event, held annually from mid-May to the end of June. The public is welcome to bring their families to visit, allowing children to connect with nature and rekindle cherished childhood memories. Notably, in 2017, the Chiayi City Government held the "1st Golden Village Competition," where the Dingzhuang Community ultimately secured first place and was recognized as the Golden Village.
