Visitor Essentials

Zhongshan Hall, located within Yangmingshan National Park, is an exceptionally magnificent Chinese palace-style building. It was constructed in 1965 during President Chiang Kai-shek's tenure to commemorate the centenary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth. Designed and led by the renowned Taiwanese female architect Ms. Xiu Zhelan, the hall is set amidst lush greenery surrounded by mountains. Its exterior showcases traditional Chinese classical architecture, while its interior boasts elegant and refined furnishings. The design incorporates classical palace elements, featuring a vast green glazed tile roof, symmetrical vermilion giant columns, and exquisitely ornate carved beams and painted rafters, fully embodying the grandeur of traditional architecture. In the past, Zhongshan Hall served as the venue for the National Assembly and an important site for heads of state to host foreign dignitaries or state banquets, witnessing numerous historical shifts. Due to its unique geographical location, visitors can still detect a faint scent of sulfur inside the hall to this day, which has become a distinctive sensory memory unique to Zhongshan Hall. Today, this building of significant historical commemorative value has been designated a municipal historic monument. It has shed its former functions and transformed into a precious historical site open to the public for venue rentals and guided tours, allowing people to appreciate this iconic building up close, a structure that blends superb craftsmanship, engineering marvels, and splendid scenery.
