Founded on March 28, 1997, the Miniatures Museum is Asia's first themed museum dedicated to collecting contemporary miniature artworks. The Miniatures Museum seeks out works by world-class miniature art masters from around the globe, boasting a collection scale ranked among the world's best. After meticulous arrangement and display, the diverse miniature masterpieces currently on exhibition number over two hundred. These primarily include dollhouses that showcase the complete interior and exterior of buildings, dream roomboxes that exquisitely depict various rooms, and other creatively themed works. From glimpsing the magnificent scenery of the Roman Empire through two-thousand-year-old Roman ruins to experiencing the comfortable luxury of gentlemen and socialites in a 90s American millionaire's apartment; the romantic charm of Venice, Italy; the lavish Buckingham Palace of the Queen of England, and the slums of London's East End; to Snow White in a fairy tale world – strolling through the Miniatures Museum is like stepping into a time tunnel of exotic cultures. Originating from 16th-century German court aristocrats, miniature art has spread throughout Europe and North America. These delicate artworks, ranging from entire buildings to a key on a desk, are strictly crafted to a specific scaled-down proportion, with 1:12 being the globally prevalent standard. Most precious is that miniature artworks are modeled after reality; aside from living people and animals, a 1-centimeter-tall wine bottle contains real brandy, a stamp-sized oil painting is an authentic oil original, and there are cabinets, chairs, bed linens, porcelain, glass, metal, wallpaper, crystal chandeliers, and more. Of course, there are also children's favorite animated mini-televisions; not one piece is anything less than a scaled-down replica of a real object. Do you dream of traveling the world during your weekend? The Miniatures Museum can certainly fulfill your dream. Those who have admired miniature art often share the common feeling: 'I truly wish I could shrink and live inside!' This is a tangible dream, beautiful, mysterious, and so small that it is cherished and hard to part with. In its early days, the Miniatures Museum primarily focused on European and American works, as comparable museum-quality pieces were not yet found in the East. The museum also concentrates on modern works because they are exquisite and clearly detailed in all aspects, far surpassing classical works in terms of visual appeal and educational value. The entire collection of the Miniatures Museum is privately owned. While some pieces are from the generous contributions of North American collectors, the rest were specially commissioned from renowned European and American artists for the museum.
