Walking along Xinsheng South Road, you will surely notice a distinctive building. With its 15-meter-high domed roof, it's a sight that compels everyone passing by to take a second look. This is Taipei's Grand Mosque. Mosques are places of worship for Islam. Covering an area of 2,747 square meters, the Taipei Grand Mosque was completed on April 13, 1960. It was jointly funded and built by Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. The renowned architect Mr. Yang Cho-cheng, who also designed the Grand Hotel, was responsible for its architectural design. Its main structure consists of permanent reinforced concrete beams and columns. The exterior walls are reinforced with bricks, covered with fine cement aggregate, and adorned with surface treatments and mosaic patterns. The round stone pillars are finished with bush-hammered stone, and the main doors and windows feature large floor-to-ceiling designs. Another major feature is the dome inside the main prayer hall, which is 15 meters high and spans 15 meters without any supporting pillars in the center. The main hall is adorned with a handmade Persian wool carpet gifted by a friendly nation's king and features hanging palace chandeliers. The two minarets on the exterior stand over 20 meters tall, making the architecture magnificent and grand. For over 40 years, kings, presidents, and leaders from various Islamic nations around the world visiting Taiwan have made the mosque a significant stop in their itinerary, fully leveraging its function for international diplomacy and cultural exchange. Visitors to the mosque are kindly requested to observe proper etiquette. Access to the main prayer hall and the ladies' prayer hall on the second floor is restricted to Muslims only.
