Yangmingshan National Park

Yangmingshan National Park is located in the Beitou and Shilin Districts of Taipei City, making it the national park closest to the urban core. It features the Datun Volcano Group as its primary landscape, boasting complete volcanic terrain and diverse ecosystems. The park spans over 10,000 hectares, and due to variations in altitude and climate, it presents distinct seasonal appearances: spring brings flower seasons, summer features mountain mist and dense fog, autumn showcases fields of silvergrass, and winter offers the desolate beauty of the highlands. Xiaoyoukeng, Lengshuikeng, Qingtiangang Grassland, Qixing Mountain, and Menghuan Lake are all iconic attractions within the park. The dense network of trails offers routes suitable for everyone, from leisurely strolls to challenging mountain hikes, making it Taipei residents' most accessible nature classroom, with most areas reachable by public transportation. The park is home to numerous volcanic geological landscapes, with Xiaoyoukeng being the most representative, where fumaroles, sulfur deposits, and continuously steaming geothermal phenomena clearly demonstrate the power of volcanic activity. The areas around Lengshuikeng preserve unique ecological environments such as wetlands and marshes, offering varied trail scenery, and the Jingshan Suspension Bridge provides beautiful views of forests and valleys. Lengshuikeng and Macao are both renowned for their hot spring resources, allowing visitors to experience the energy of the volcanic terrain in a more intimate way. Spring is the most vibrant season in Yangmingshan. Mid-March brings the calla lily season to Zhuzihu, where white flowers carpet the valley, and flower-picking experiences are a favorite activity for visitors. Early summer transitions into the hydrangea season, with hillsides dyed in blue, purple, and pink, making it an excellent time for photographing mountain landscapes and flower seas. The Erziping Trail is flat and easy to walk, making it a popular choice for families and seniors, and from May to July each year, frogs, butterflies, and various insects can be observed in the surrounding areas. In autumn, silvergrass covers the mountaintops, with the golden mountain scenery around Qixing Mountain and Qingtiangang being the most iconic. In addition to natural landscapes, the park also preserves numerous cultural resources. Yangmingshuwu carries modern political history, with its architecture and surrounding environment telling the story of that era. Grass Mountain Chateau and former military and administrative facilities also bear witness to the historical changes of Yangmingshan. For those who wish to explore deeper human stories, a stroll along the Yulu Ancient Trail or Zimingxi Trail offers a chance to trace the life trajectories of early residents traveling between mountain towns.
