Machangding Riverside Park

Riding a bicycle along the Xindian River, passing through a lush green expanse flanked by towering buildings on both sides of the river, and after traversing the Machangding Cycling Path, you can then turn into "Machangding Riverside Park", a park situated by the Xindian River and adjacent to Youth Park. Machangding Riverside Park was originally a military site. Later, through various negotiations, the Taipei City Government integrated it with the nearby Huajiang Wild Duck Park and Zhongzheng Riverside Park, providing a large recreational area and a great place for leisure in Wanhua District. The early mornings at Machangding possess a refreshing beauty. The long steps along the riverbank serve as a viewing platform perfect for watching the sunrise, offering a wide vista where reflections in the river are visible. On clear days, one can see the morning sun slowly ascending beside the distant Taipei 101 building. Occasionally, sunlight piercing through the clouds bathes the Xindian River, revealing a dazzling golden shimmer on the water's surface, truly beautiful. Within Machangding Riverside Park stands a mound of earth. The inscription on the monument in front of the mound reads: "In the 1950s, passionate patriots who sought social justice and political reform were arrested during the martial law period and executed by firing squad near this Machangding mound. To commemorate the deceased and this historical event, this Machangding execution ground mound is specially preserved to mourn the countless heroic souls who sacrificed themselves in Taiwan, and for future generations to pay their respects and venerate."
