Visitor Essentials

The Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch is Taiwan's first green building library. It is situated in Beitou Park, which boasts dense forests and a rich ecological environment, and stands adjacent to the Beitou Hot Spring Museum. The library spans one basement level and two above-ground floors, covering a total area of 650 ping. The fragrance of books indoors, complemented by the chirping of birds outdoors, creates a delightful harmony, making reading a truly pleasant and enjoyable activity. With tens of thousands of books in its collection, specializing in 'ecological conservation,' the library offers a vast treasure trove of knowledge, making book lovers feel as if they are in a literary paradise. The tables and chairs in the indoor reading area are meticulously designed to complement the architecture, while outdoors, wooden deck tables and chairs, and reading platforms allow visitors to read while feeling the gentle breeze, immersing themselves in the world of books amidst nature. When you need a break, step outside to behold a lush green forest and an ecological lotus pond, which not only alleviates eye strain but also relaxes both mind and body. The library features a lightweight eco-roof equipped with solar photovoltaic panels capable of generating 16 kilowatts of electricity. Extensive deep shading on balconies and vertical wooden trellises are incorporated to reduce heat radiation into the interior, lowering energy consumption and achieving significant energy-saving effects. The green roof and sloped grass design retain rainwater, which naturally drains into collection tanks. This harvested water is then reused for watering plants and flushing toilets, promoting greenery and reducing water waste. The building utilizes wood and steel, and all construction materials are recyclable and reusable, thereby reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact. Regarding indoor health and environmental standards, in addition to termite prevention for wooden building materials, eco-friendly paints are used, and unnecessary renovation projects are avoided. This minimizes pollution and the release of toxic substances, safeguarding human health. When you visit Beitou, in addition to enjoying hot springs, you can also experience a 'forest bath' where the fragrance of books merges with lush greenery!
