Originally the former site of the Okura-gumi Taiwan Office Civil Engineering Company, it was taken over in the late 1930s by Yoshio Satohara, a liquor merchant who imported 'Fukukomusume'. On January 1, 1946, Song Feiru and Wang Tiandeng operated 'The People's Daily' here, offering sharp commentary and criticism of current affairs. After the incident erupted, Song Feiru and Wang Tiandeng were arrested and have been missing ever since. The Taiwan Garrison Command subsequently sealed the premises, charging them with 'reactionary ideology, absurd statements slandering the government, and being a primary force inciting rebellion'.
