Located by the lotus pond in Taipei Botanical Garden, it was built in the early Shōwa era of Japanese rule (1930s) and originally served as a teahouse. Its original address was 'Taihoku Prefecture, Taihoku City, Nanmen-chō 6-chōme, 323-banchi', and it was later named 'Nanmencho 323'. Due to years of neglect, it gradually fell into disrepair. In recent years, with the assistance of renowned architect Kuo Chung-tuan and Professor Kenji Horikomi, its original Japanese architectural style was restored. Mr. Motomi Oguchi, a a garden designer from Nagano Prefecture, Japan, was also invited to design a Japanese dry landscape (karesansui) garden.
