●Introduction: Chongqing South Road, originally known as Fucian Street and Wenwu Street, is a historic bookstore street in Taiwan. During its heyday, there were over a hundred bookstores and publishing houses. Many literati, intellectuals, and students enjoyed spending an afternoon here, viewing the bookstore street as their Xinyi District, their shopping paradise. Thus, it can be said that Bookstore Street nurtured many of Taiwan's elites. Now, due to the impact of multiple factors, the bookstore street is gradually declining. Most of those that remain standing are well-known major publishing houses. Nevertheless, Chongqing South Road is still the road with the highest density of bookstores in the Taipei area. ●Features and Recommendations: During the Japanese colonial period, "Taiwan Shoseki Kabushiki Kaisha" (Taiwan Books Co., Ltd.) was established on Chongqing South Road, specializing in printing textbooks of that era. After the retrocession of Taiwan, it was renamed "Taiwan Bookstore." After the textbook market opened up in 2003, the textbook business originally handled by Taiwan Bookstore was adjusted, and the bookstore was subsequently closed due to policy and market changes. The scholarly atmosphere on Chongqing South Road has historical roots. Even now, numerous bookstores stand here, and you can find any book you desire, regardless of its field or purpose. Unfortunately, due to market changes, a decrease in readers, and the impact of online bookstores, the number of bookstores here is not what it once was. However, despite this, Bookstore Street still holds an important position. Many publishing houses and bookstores continue to strive here, serving readers, and you can feel the rich scent of books as soon as you step in. Pick up a book, read slowly, and when you find a part you love and find exciting, read it word by word, immersing yourself in the aroma of books. An afternoon quickly passes by. This feeling is shared by many who browse bookstores on Chongqing South Road. Known as Bookstore Street, Chongqing South Road has a long history. Older generations say that during its peak, there were over a hundred bookstores and publishing houses! Here you'll find many long-established bookstores, such as San Min Book Co., Ltd., which houses nearly 150,000 types of books and was the first "library-style" bookstore in the country, allowing people to immerse themselves in the vast world of knowledge while browsing. Others, like Rulin Bookstore, World Bookstore, and Tenlong Bookstore, are among the 20-30 stores lining the street, each with its own unique characteristics.
