Dapeng Bay has moved past its former military background and oyster farm days, and is now developing towards water-based tourism and recreational activities. However, to promote water recreation, the first consideration is whether the water quality is good enough. In light of this, the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration has invested significant effort in long-term water quality monitoring. To improve water quality and simultaneously restore the area's original wetland landscape, the specific approach was to transform abandoned fish farms around the bay into "artificial wetlands." These wetlands require low infrastructure investment, have low operating costs, are easy to manage and maintain, and offer multiple functions such as regulating the microclimate and improving the environment, serving as wastewater treatment bases. Because the wastewater treated by the Dapeng Bay artificial wetland complex primarily comes from the surrounding aquaculture farms, and the water used by these farms originates from the seawater of Dapeng Bay, the wetlands process saltwater, not freshwater. Therefore, many of Dapeng Bay's wetlands are among the few saltwater artificial wetlands in Taiwan, which is a significant feature. It has been proven that the aquatic plants cultivated in the wetland environment have effectively improved the original ecological landscape of the area, while also increasing the living space for aquatic flora and fauna, enriching and beautifying the waterscape of Dapeng Bay, and highlighting its green ecology.
