Ryukyu Island is home to numerous rugged and unusually shaped rocks, most of which are concentrated near the 'Hou Shi Skirt Reef' on the southeastern coast. As you proceed along the round-the-island road from Wugui Cave, you will be greeted by a massive rock whose appearance strikingly resembles a native figure. Its top is densely covered with branches and leaves, and from a distance, its overall outline looks like an Indian's head, hence it is known as 'Indian Head Rock'. Further along, if you use your imagination, you'll discover a rock resembling Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy), sitting serenely by the shore with its back to the mountains and facing the sea. Look closer, and its facial features are remarkably clear! In addition to Indian Head Rock and Guanyin Stone, there are also Ivy Stone, Polar Bear Stone, and Parrot Beak Stone, among others. When visiting, don't just take a quick photo and move on. Instead, let your imagination run wild, name these unique rock formations, and even weave a wonderful and moving story about them. The depressions in the Hou Shi Skirt Reef area were historically used by ancestors for sun-drying salt. Thanks to its excellent geographical and geological environment, it is highly favored by residents. With everything on the island put to good use, it truly lives up to its reputation as Taiwan's only coral reef island.
