Guo Yi Mei Bookstore

Guo Yi Mei Bookstore is located on Dihua Street in Dadaocheng. It is a century-old house with three floors in the front section and two floors in the back section, making up five distinct spaces. It houses over 30,000 book titles, making it Taiwan's independent bookstore with the widest variety of books. A century ago, the house was built by Mr. Guo Wulong, the grandfather of the bookstore's founder. The Guo family started their business in Dadaocheng a century ago. After various generational changes, the third generation had all left Dadaocheng. However, Mr. Guo Chongxing, also of the third generation, entered the publishing industry and achieved success. In 2022, he rented back his grandfather's original family home and business premises, establishing the Guo Yi Mei Bookstore using the original business's name. Established during the pandemic, Guo Yi Mei Bookstore is book-centric, believing in the purity of books and thus housing a vast collection, convinced of the value of reading. The selection of books, their display, and numerous reading-related activities are the main reasons why the bookstore has earned public recognition and praise. Guo Yi Mei Bookstore's mission is to connect with the community and promote reading. In the Dadaocheng area, it collaborates with Xiahai City God Temple and local businesses to jointly promote Dadaocheng's walking tours and lectures on local history. It also partners with elementary schools in Taipei and New Taipei, inviting students to visit the bookstore and gifting them a book of their choice, hoping to initiate children's bookstore reading experience. Furthermore, it extensively collaborates with publishers, galleries, artists, and creators, hosting concerts, art exhibitions, photography exhibitions, new book launches, creative showcases, thematic special exhibitions, and night tours. With over 150 events held annually, Guo Yi Mei Bookstore has become a local cultural and artistic center. Guo Yi Mei Bookstore hopes to carry on its century-old business history and, looking to the future, create a 'century bookstore' for the future. Amidst the transmission of historical culture and the evolution of reading habits, the bookstore aims to make meaningful contributions to this legacy and foster connections between books and people. Our mission is to build a cultural hub, attracting readers interested in history, art, culture, knowledge, and aesthetics, and to invite the next generation to the bookstore, allowing them to naturally absorb the cultural atmosphere and develop a love for reading.
