Climbing Precautions: 1. Before Climbing: The 'Guguan Seven Heroes' vary in climbing difficulty. The shortest round trip takes about 4 hours, while the longest requires 9 to 10 hours. These are not ordinary hiking trails, and the terrain changes greatly. Before climbing, hikers should assess their physical fitness and weather conditions and avoid strenuous climbing. Prepare sufficient equipment before hiking, prioritizing lightweight and practical items. It is recommended to bring warm clothing, rain gear, water, trail food, maps, lighting equipment, a whistle, positioning and communication devices (e.g., GPS, walkie-talkie, mobile phone, satellite phone), and personal medication. Start hiking early to avoid reaching the summit late, as it gets dark quickly on the descent, making paths difficult to distinguish and leading to getting lost. If a typhoon or heavy rain is approaching, or other foreseeable weather changes occur, absolutely do not enter the mountains. The 'Huanshan Hunter Trail' is located in the Huanshan Tribe of Heping District, and the journey is long, requiring passage through traffic control points in Wuling or Lishan areas. Hikers are advised to confirm road conditions, allocate sufficient travel time, and be aware of seasonal traffic controls or weather changes to ensure a smooth and safe hike. 2. During Climbing: Hiking teams should not stretch too far apart. Always maintain a state where members can respond to each other. Do not hike on unmarked trails or create new paths. Pay attention to safety when passing through dangerous and steep sections; especially when walking on collapsing cliffs or scree slopes, be extra careful to avoid falling. Plan your descent time well, especially since it gets dark quickly in mountainous areas, and descend early. 3. Emergency Response for Mountain Accidents: In case of an accident, remain calm and do not panic. Immediately call 119 or 112 for help with a mobile phone, or use a satellite phone to call for external assistance. You can also use the emergency radio channel 145.00 for help. Use your mobile phone or map to provide your trapped coordinates to rescue personnel. If someone is injured or sick, first provide simple first aid, fixation, and hemostasis for the injured; if altitude sickness occurs, immediately bring the patient to a lower altitude, always pay attention to keeping them warm, and avoid hypothermia. If you get lost or the weather suddenly deteriorates during a hiking activity, find a safe shelter to protect yourself and set up appropriate markers so that rescuers can quickly find your trapped location. 4. To reduce hiking risks, the Maritime and Port Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications requests that individuals engaging in mountain activities carry satellite communication equipment to facilitate search and rescue in case of distress: To reduce hiking risks, the Maritime and Port Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has established a 'Radio Beacon Management Information System,' which applies to Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs). Individuals engaging in mountain activities are encouraged to make good use of it to send distress signals in case of emergency and notify rescue units to initiate search and rescue operations. For details, please visit the official website of the Maritime and Port Bureau, MOTC. VII. Introduction to Guguan Seven Heroes & Trails Baxianshan • Trail length: 6 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 1,337 meters • Trail type: Linear one-way • Character Trait: The leader of the Seven Heroes. The horns on Baxianshan Lord's head symbolize the coniferous forests on Baxianshan. Baxianshan, originally named 'Ba Qianshan' (Eight Thousand Mountains) due to its elevation of approximately 8,000 Japanese feet, was later given the more elegant name 'Baxianshan.' It is the leader of the Guguan Seven Heroes, and a round trip hike takes about 8 hours. The first half of the trail has a steeper incline, becoming more gradual after reaching the ridge. The entire trail is shaded by trees, with vegetation transitioning from evergreen broadleaf forests to mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests with distinct seasonal changes, offering diverse scenery throughout the year. Malunshan • Trail length: 7 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 1,254 meters • Trail type: Linear one-way • Character Trait: Malunshan's zigzag ascent makes for a wide and pleasant path, offering a relaxing and comfortable experience. Malunshan is a mountain extending westward from Baigudashan in the Xueshan Mountain Range, ranking second among the 'Guguan Seven Heroes' and a renowned mid-level mountain in Central Taiwan. The section from 0K to 1.8K of the trail, along with the branch leading to the Eight Warriors Sacred Trees, was formerly known as the 'Skubba Trail,' one of the early hunting grounds for the Atayal indigenous people and a historical log-hauling trail of the Xinsan Forest Farm. The path leading to Malunshan itself was built by early Xinsan branch employees to transport daily necessities. The Malunshan Trail is lined with two-needle pines, with a soft and springy carpet of pine needles and maple leaves underfoot. In autumn, the maple leaves turn red, creating a beautiful 'red carpet' effect. Passing by the century-old 'Five-Needle Pine Mother,' you can hear the rustling pines like waves, accompanied by the scent of pine in the air, making it refreshing. The observation platform next to the trail offers an excellent panoramic view of Guguan scenery and distant mountain curves, making it arguably the most beautiful trail in the Guguan area. Wuwoweishan • Trail length: 6.7 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 119 meters • Trail type: Linear two-way • Character Trait: Do you prefer the thrilling Liyang Line or the comfortable and charming Dasyueshan Line? It's both an angel and a little devil! Wuwoweishan is located on the north bank of the Dajia River and ranks third among the Guguan Seven Heroes. The trail offers diverse environments along the way, including rhododendron forests, low-dense wind-swept forests on the ridge, cedar plantations, mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests, and Machilus/Lithocarpus forests. Underneath, damp fallen branches, logs, and leaf litter host clusters of fungi. On clear days, the surrounding mountains can be seen from clearings along the trail. Bojinjiashan • Trail length: 3.2 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 958 meters • Trail type: Linear one-way • Character Trait: Bojinjiashan, with the best amenities, is a must-experience at Guguan Hot Spring. The Bojinjiashan Trail is located on the north bank of the Dajia River, ranking fourth among the Guguan Seven Heroes. It was formerly a Taipower maintenance road, and old fallen wooden utility poles and steel cables can still be seen alongside the forest path. The name 'Bojinjiashan' is said to come from the steepness of the trail, with many hikers describing it as 'po jin dou' (a Hokkien phonetic approximation for 'very steep'). Due to an elevation difference of about 1,000 meters, almost the entire section is uphill, and a round trip takes 7 to 8 hours. Dongmaoshan • Trail length: 6.7 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 899 meters • Trail type: Linear one-way • Character Trait: Gentle zigzag ascent, the longest and most beautiful popular trail is on Dongmaoshan. Dongmaoshan, with an elevation of 1,692 meters, ranks fifth among the Guguan Seven Heroes. It was originally a Taipower maintenance road. The scenery along the route is beautiful, and ecological resources are rich and diverse. The hiking path gently ascends in a zigzag pattern, wide and easy to walk, making it a very accessible mountain. After reaching the summit, the open area is vast, featuring a large microwave reflector, offering expansive 360-degree panoramic views. On clear days, in addition to overlooking the Songhe Tribe, the beautiful mountain landscapes of Yanzui, Shaolai, Malunshan, Baxianshan Ridge, and Tangmadanshan are all visible. Baimaodshan • Trail length: 2.3 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 609 meters • Trail type: Linear one-way • Character Trait: Stunning and expansive viewpoint, the popular Bailu Suspension Bridge is on Baimaodshan! Baimaodshan is located on the south bank of the Dajia River, ranking sixth among the Guguan Seven Heroes, with a triangulation point elevation of approximately 1522 meters, offering rare panoramic views among the Seven Heroes. Baimaodshan is primarily covered by broadleaf secondary forests and large areas of Japanese cedar plantations. The dense vegetation attracts many large mammals and birds to forage here. There are several steep sections along the trail. The landslide area before the triangulation point offers views of the Dajia River, Guguan Dadaoyuan, and distant scenic beauty including Dongmaoshan and Tangmadanshan. There is a wooden pavilion at the summit for resting. Tangmadanshan • Trail length: 5.4 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 655 meters • Trail type: Loop • Character Trait: The only waterfall landscape, friendly butterfly fairies welcome you! The Tangmadanshan Trail is located on the south bank of the Dajia River, ranking last among the Guguan Seven Heroes and also having the lowest elevation among them. Although it has the lowest altitude, the elevation difference from the trailhead to the summit exceeds 650 meters, making it still a quite challenging route. The Tangmadanshan trailhead is located in the Lileng Tribe. The summit offers the best views among the Seven Heroes: to the east, you can overlook Baxianshan and Malunshan; to the west, Baimaodshan and Alengshan; and to the north, Dongmaoshan and Wuwoweishan are visible in the distance. On the way to the summit, there is a path leading to Butterfly Valley Waterfall. You can choose whether to visit it based on your physical condition and time. The Tangmadanshan Trail is the only trail among the Guguan Seven Heroes with a waterfall landscape. Xueshankeng Hiking Trail • Trail length: Approximately 2.4 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 89 meters • Estimated time: Approximately 1 hour • Administrative district: Heping District • Trail type: Loop • Character Trait: The 'Giant's Hand' deep in the mountains adds a touch of mystery to your forest journey. Located in the natural primeval forest of Taoshan Tribe, this trail follows existing hunting paths of the local Atayal tribe, connecting local ecological attractions such as the Bird's Nest Fern forest, zelkova forest, and machilus forest using environmentally sustainable construction methods like wooden boardwalks and log stairs. The entrance is next to the famous check-in spot 'Giant's Hand,' with a prominent and adorable leopard cat sculpture nearby. Huanshan Hunter Hiking Trail • Trail length: Approximately 2.5 kilometers • Elevation gain/loss: 227 meters • Estimated time: Approximately 2.5 hours • Administrative district: Heping District • Trail type: Loop • Character Trait: The trail covers ancient Atayal hunting paths, come for a cultural experience! Located in a mountainous area at an elevation of approximately 1,600 meters, this trail is not only a great recreational spot for outsiders but also carries the long history of the local Atayal tribe, and is highly anticipated by locals for tourism development. Along the way, recreational nodes are built with Atayal elements such as semi-subterranean dwelling ruins and a hunter's archery range, allowing visitors to experience traditional Atayal culture. The small loop, 1.2 kilometers long, is suitable for all ages and is a leisure-grade trail for getting close to nature. For a self-challenge, you can choose the 1.3-kilometer large loop, which is a strenuous-grade trail with challenging slopes. VIII. Q&A 1. Which are the Guguan Seven Heroes? Please use a single application method. Online application is recommended as the priority. 8. Can I upload photos for some mountains and use GPS for others? Yes, as long as you are within the designated range of the triangulation point, GPS application will automatically acquire it. If you cannot obtain it automatically due to personal operation, you can use photo upload to apply for completion when the internet connection is smooth. All operations completed within the APP are considered online applications. 9. Can I still use GPS to complete the mission without an internet connection? Yes, GPS is satellite positioning, so you can collect virtual mountain badges without internet. Note!! You must download the Taichung Fun App and complete member login with an internet connection before departing. 10. What should I do if I still cannot collect virtual mountain badges even with GPS enabled? Follow the steps displayed by the system: upload a photo of yourself with the wooden stake at the mountain's elevation point to the designated area in the APP. Once approved, the electronic badge for that mountain will be sent, proving completion of the climb. Photo requirements: Hikers simply need to enable the date display function on their phone/camera or hold a handwritten time board and take a photo with the wooden stake at the mountain's elevation point. Photos should preferably be individual shots; if it's a group photo, please clearly indicate who the completer is to facilitate backend review. (Please refer to Item 1 of Section II of this description) 11. Can the climbing records for the Guguan Seven Heroes from 2025 be accumulated to continue and complete the Seven Heroes mission in 2026? Yes, as long as you log in to the Taichung Fun App with the same account, cross-year achievements will be automatically recognized. 12. If I have previously completed the Guguan Seven Heroes certification, and I complete the Seven Heroes again in 2026, can I apply for a first-round badge? Since the cross-year system was adopted in 2022, individuals who completed one round before 2025 and continue to complete the mission in 2026 will automatically be recognized as having completed two rounds, and a first-round certification will not be reissued. 13. If I did not apply for certification in 2021, can I apply for retroactive certification this year? No. The activity has announced retroactive recognition of 2021 climbing records only for those who participated in the APP online certification in 2021 but had not yet completed the challenge. For those who did not use the Taichung Fun App to obtain completion records in 2021, climbing photos cannot be retroactively recognized. 14. If I have completed the 'Guguan Seven Heroes' more than ten times, can I continue to accumulate? The Guguan Seven Heroes certification is currently only planned up to the tenth round of completion. If you have already reached ten rounds and wish to continue accumulating climbs, please use GPS check-in to obtain virtual mountain badges and do not use photo review. 15. Can trail missions accumulate climbing rounds? No. The newly added 'Xueshankeng Hiking Trail' and 'Huanshan Hunter Hiking Trail' are single-completion challenges, meaning you receive certification after completing them once, with no multi-round certification mechanism planned. Currently, only the 'Guguan Seven Heroes' offers multi-round challenges (one, two, five, and ten rounds). We welcome you to continue accumulating.
