Daqiu Deer Viewing

Daqiu is a small island located north of Beigan Island. In its early days, Daqiu Island was home to hundreds of stationed troops and residents. Now, only a few old houses, overgrown with creeping fig, remain as traces of its past. Currently, in addition to the original paths, Daqiu Island also features a main hiking trail. Daqiu Island covers an area of approximately 0.6 square kilometers and has a circular ecological trail. Daqiu boasts rich flora and fauna and unique coastal erosion landforms. Along the trail, visitors can see military facility sites, wild sika deer, and coastal terrain offering excellent views. The northeast side of Daqiu is the best spot to admire Daqiu's coastal landscape, where you can observe sea erosion landforms such as sea grooves and sea caves. At the northeastern tip, you can see Xiaoqiu (Little Daqiu) and the visible reef located between Daqiu and Xiaoqiu. The water surface around the visible reef is shallower, suggesting it may have once connected the two islands before being separated by sea erosion. On the northwest side of Daqiu, the jointed surface of the granite coast has been continuously eroded by the sea, leading to the formation of most of the sea grooves and sea caves. From June to September each year, the Lienchiang County Government arranges boat services to Daqiu Island. Visitors can also enjoy views of Beigan's coast, settlements, and observe gulls from the sea. The Daqiu Ecological Trail takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. As summer weather can be hot, please prepare water, sunscreen, and sun-protective gear. The sika deer on the island are wild and mostly cool off in the 'woods' (sika deer also dislike the heat!). Please search for deer quietly and carefully among the trees!
